Actually seeing how the relaunch is taking Captain Marvel (See the prologue chapters in the new issues of Justice League) I wish this was how it was. I hate how they're making Billy such a jerk. The whole point of Billy becoming Captain Marvel is that, despite how bad his life is, he is still a purely good person. The fact that they're making him a spiteful and selfish brat destroys that idea. I almost fear the Re-launch version of Shazam is going to pick him as a last resort. That would be so disappointing.

I've really come to like Captain Marvel these last few years. I really hope they can salvage the character.

I haven't been reading it so I can't really say much on the matter. Not having read it I can say that I tend to agree with your perspective though.
